ORLANDO, FL. - August was a month of continued steady growth for Orlando International Airport. (OIA) The growth rate was four and a half percent over the same period last year, bringing the total number of passengers for the month to 2.7 million. (2,712,603)
The growth came amidst challenges in the airline industry with some carriers experiencing financial difficulties and with all airlines dealing with record high aviation fuel prices and supply concerns.
The fact that we were able to sustain passenger growth in a very fluid aviation environment is testament to the areas strength as a choice destination for both domestic and international travelers, says C.W. Bill Jennings, Executive Director for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
Total cargo traffic at Orlando International also increased four and a half percent for the month. Meanwhile, total operations at Orlando Executive Airport posted a solid gain of 18 percent (18.15) for the month.
For the calendar year so far, Orlando International has seen nearly eight percent growth (7.95) in passenger traffic bringing the total number of travelers to 23.5 million. (23,524,315) Orlando International is Floridas busiest airport with over 31.1 million passengers in 2004. OIA also recently secured the J.D. Power and Associates number one ranking for airport passenger satisfaction in North America.
