7/27/2007 - International Traffic Leads May Growth at Orlando International Airport
ORLANDO, FL.- A four and a half percent increase in international traffic helped spur healthy growth at Orlando International Airport (MCO) for the month of May. In total, nearly 180,000 international visitors used MCO as a gateway in May. Part of the growth in international visitors can be attributed to AeroMexico, which recorded a 60 percent increase in arrivals, with 12 new flights for the month as compared to May of 2006.
The weekend of July 21-22 AeroMexico landed ten planes at MCO. AeroMexico is
expected to operate 12 flights per week at MCO starting in August.
Overall, passenger traffic was up over 2.8 percent for the month at Orlando International. That increase also pushed the number of passengers in May to over three million (3,132,935).
Orlando International Airport is the busiest passenger airport in Florida with nearly 35 million passengers annually. In the most recent Airports Council International (ACI) Passenger Traffic Statistics Report, MCO ranks as the 13th busiest in the nation and 24th most heavily traveled airport in the world.
