1/11/2013 - Thanksgiving Travel Generates 1.2 Million Passengers in Just 12 Days

ORLANDO, FL. - Over 1.2 million travelers chose to use Orlando International Airport (MCO) during the 12-day Thanksgiving holiday period. The volume of passengers drove Orbitz Travel to name Orlando as one of the nation's busiest holiday travel destinations. For the entire month, overall traffic was down slightly, less than one percent.

"Our international traffic continues to perform well, up four percent for the month, thanks to the expansion of our non-stop services to Central and South America. However, the November traffic figures also reflect the result of reduced domestic travel, economic uncertainty and overall industry trends," says Ph il Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

November 2012 Highlights:

  • Frontier Airlines started six new routes; flying nearly three times as many seats as last November
  • JetBlue added a new route with double-daily service to Providence
  • AirTran boosted capacity to Boston and Detroit (two of MCO's largest domestic markets)

November 2012 Statistical Data:

  • Overall traffic held relatively steady with a 0.9 percent decrease with 2.8 million passengers
  • International traffic increased 4.2 percent with 305,925 passengers
  • Domestic traffic decreased 1.5 percent with 2,524,366 passengers
  • Year-to-date international traffic is up 8.2 percent with 3.4 million travelers
  • Year-to-date domestic traffic is down 1.4 percent with 28.9 million travelers

Orlando International Airport has scheduled non-stop service to 25 percent more U.S. destinations on 32 percent more flights with 36 percent more seats than any other airport in Florida.
