3/8/2013 - Orlando International Airport Starts 2013 With Double-Digit International Growth


ORLANDO, FL.- The Board of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority is pleased to announce that Orlando International Airport (MCO) continued to build upon its record international growth from 2012 with a 15.1 percent increase in international travelers in January 2013. The robust international traffic pushed overall
passenger totals for the month up more than one percent.

Twenty airlines increased capacity over last January - US Airways, JetBlue, Frontier and TAM reported the largest increase in seats.

"Beginning the New Year on such a strong international note is great news for Orlando International Airport," says Frank Kruppenbacher, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. "This further illustrates that international growth is extremely important to the economic vitality of the airport and the entire Central Florida region ."

January 2013 Statistical Data:

  • International traffic increased 15.1 percent to 337,633 passengers
  • Domestic traffic remained steady with a 0.4 percent decline to 2,490,951
  • Overall traffic increased 1.2 percent to 2,828,584 compared to last January
  • Cargo traffic was up 1 0.3 percent

January 2013 Service Data:

  • United/Silver Airways started service to Ft. Lauderdale (17/week)
  • Sunwing started seasonal service to Halifax, Nova Scotia (1/week)
  • LAN Airlines resumed seasonal service to Santiago, Chile (2/week)
  • Air Transat resumed seasonal service to Winnipeg, Manitoba (1/week)
  • Southwest increased service to Buffalo (up 7 to 15/week) and Baltimore (up 7 to 49/week)
