10/7/2013 - Domestic and International Traffic Increase at Orlando International Airport in August


ORLANDO, FL. - Both the number of domestic passengers and international travelers coming to Orlando International Airport (MCO) climbed in August. Combined, overall traffic was up over 3.6 percent for the month compared to year ago levels.

Adding to the increase, the airport's largest carrier, Southwest/AirTran added three new destinations to its lineup; Memphis, Tennessee; Austin, Texas and Grand Rapids, Michigan. Each city is serviced seven-days-a-week.

"Positive news about both our domestic and international traffic re-enforces the fact that Orlando International Airport continues to contribute to Central Florida's ability to attract visitors from around the world, which adds to our local economy," says Frank Kruppenbacher, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

August 2013 Statistical Data:

  • Domestic traffic increased 3.2 percent with 2,679,082 passengers in August
  • International traffic was up 6.6 percent with 361,749 travelers
  • International carriers increased capacity to MCO by 11.8 percent in August
  • Overall travel increased 3.6 percent with 3,040,831 for the month
  • Year-to-date international traffic is at record pace up 5.5 percent with 2,731,568 total visitors

Also adding to the uptick in numbers US Airways, Silver Airways, Copa, Gol and Alaska Airlines all added seating capacity in August, up by 3.3 percent with a combined 38,000 additional seats.
