60% Design Rendering

Work is well underway on the South Terminal Phase 1, which will add 15 gates capable of accommodating up to 18 aircraft depending on the combination of narrow body, jumbo and super-jumbo aircraft.

Drone Footage – February 2020

Expected to open in 2022, the three-floor facility will be adjacent to the South Airport APM Complex and Intermodal Terminal Facility, providing the seamless integration of multimodal transportation, incorporating air, ground, and, with the arrival of Brightline in 2023, rail – making MCO the first airport in the U.S. to be served by intercity rail. Sea and space transportation are also only a short ride away at Port Canaveral/Cape Canaveral.

70% Complete – February 2021

Innovative technological and customer convenience features in the South Terminal include:

  • Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFIP) Tote Baggage Handling System for efficient tracking and expedited checked baggage delivery
  • Early Bag Storage robotic system with 1,800 bag capacity – MCO is the only airport in the world to deploy the full system
  • Virtual Ramp Control system for airline aircraft operations
  • Large-scale interactive digital media displays will provide immersive, high definition visual experiences
  • Designed as the first LEEDv4 airport campus in the world

South APM Station Interior

The South Airport Automated People Mover (APM) complex opened in November 2017. It is a 200,000 square feet facility, includes the station for the APM system which connects passengers to the Main Terminal, similar to those that connect the existing gates areas to the Main Terminal, and takes less than 4 minutes to reach the terminal.Parking Garage “C” is located on the South Entrance Road adjacent to the South APM Station and features 1,690 parking spaces and remote check-in facilities for domestic flights on Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit and United (Domestic flights only, minimum of 90 minutes before departure, available between 6:00 am and 2:00 pm).

Intermodal Terminal Facility (ITF)

The Intermodal Terminal Facility (ITF) consists of approximately 1.3 million square feet of terminal space accommodating the South APM and up to three regional rail systems (SunRail commuter rail, BrightLine inter-city rail, and possibly a third system serving the International Drive/Convention Center area). It will also support ground transportation activity including taxis, shuttle buses and public bus operations.
