Access to the Golden State from Orlando International Airport (MCO) will increase substantially this coming spring. Southwest Airlines announced today a major expansion of its transcontinental service with the addition of three non-stop routes to California. This will include major new markets for MCO:

|Sacramento, CA (SMF)||Daily from May 6, 2018|
|Oakland, CA (OAK)||Saturday-only from April 14, 2018|
These new routes have never had scheduled, non-stop service from MCO and will quadruple the markets in California served by Southwest from Orlando International.
“Southwest Airlines’ addition of San Jose, Sacramento and Oakland, California opens never before served markets from Orlando International,” says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “Not only does this create exciting new transcontinental travel opportunities for our leisure travelers but also for our business and high-tech communities.”
They will also be the three longest routes operated by Southwest Airlines out of MCO and will account for three of the seven longest routes operated by Southwest. Each destination offers significant benefits to travelers from both Central Florida and Northern California.
- Sacramento, California’s state capital, is MCO’s largest unserved domestic market with 149 passengers per day each way, all of whom currently have to take connecting flights.
- San Jose is MCO’s fourth largest unserved domestic market and will provide convenient non-stop service between Orlando and Silicon Valley, benefitting Orlando’s local business community including KPMG, Oracle and Veritas.
- Oakland is also one of MCO’s largest unserved markets and provides access to the San Francisco Bay area.
Southwest Airlines is the busiest carrier at Orlando International Airport, operating 99 daily flights serving 42 destinations.
